What Is the D-Dimer Test?

+

The D dimer test is used as a monitoring test for Covid 19
and is recommended for individuals that may be at risk of secondary conditions
as a result of Covid. D dimer is a protein fragment and a fibrin degradation
fragment that is present in the blood after a blood clot is degraded by
fibrinolysis. If you have Covid 19 then a Dimer test is a recommended test as
determined by the IFCC guidelines.

If you have an injury in your body, you have a blood
clotting response that prevents further degradation. However, if you have a
blood clot in your body along with a clotting disorder then your body may
prevent its dissolving after recovery. These conditions can be dangerous and
even life threatening which is why doctors recommend a D dimer test to test
your values.

In some cases, patients can also develop disseminated
intravascular coagulation DIC in which case a D dimer test is necessary. By
using the at home kit provided by MyDiagnostics, you can collect a blood sample
and send it to the testing lab for your results.
