About the Neurotransmitter Profile Test

Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers used by the nervous system to relay information from one nerve to another

There is a wide variety of neurotransmitters, which perform different functions in the synapse, such as signal transmission between neurons, generating a wide range of behaviors. The studies suggest that in certain neurological pathologies there are dysregulations in the metabolism of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, glutamate and GABA, in whose routes certain metabolites are involved, which can see varied concentrations, such as Glutamine, Tryptophan, GABA, tyramine or
glutamine.

Whats included in this test

Blood Markers

  • GABA - Inhibitory - Prevents anxiety, improves mood, promotes sleep, lowers blood pressure
  • Glycine - Inhibitory - Calms aggression, improves sleep, improves metabolic parameters such as blood sugar
  • Glutamate - Excitatory - Regulates appetite, thinking, memory, learning, libido
  • Aspartate - Excitatory - Regulates alertness, motivation, decision making

Urine Markers

  • Homovanilic (HVA) - HVA is a dopamine metabolite. Dopamine improves attention, focus, motivation, feelings of rewards and pleasure
  • Kinurenate
  • Vinyl mandelic (VMA) - VMA is a norepinephrine and epinephrine metabolite
  • Quinolinate
  • 5-Hydroxyindolacetic (5-HIAA) - 5-HIAA is a Serotonin metabolite. Serotonin elevates mood, decreases anxiety

Assessment

  • Catecholamine metabolism
  • Metabolism of Tryptophan (Serotonin is synthesised from Tryptohan)
  • Inhibitory neurotransmitters
  • Excitatory neurotransmitters

Common Neurotransmitter-related causes of health issues

  • Anxiety & Depression - Linked to Glutamate, Histamine, Serotonin as well as Epinephrine & Norepinephrine

  • Chronic Fatigue - Linked to imbalance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters

  • Impulsivity GABA, Dopamine and Serotonin are three chemical messengers commonly linked to disorders like ADD, ADHD & OCD

  • Insomnia & Sleep disorders Imbalances in Glutamate, Histamine, Dopamine, GABA and Serotonin are often linked to sleep disturbances
